The Direct Care Workforce Initiative

Photo of Jean & Edith Holt

Jean Holt of Hollis provokes a laugh from her mother as they explain why it is important for them to have the same, reliable paraprofessional visit  94-year-old Edith every day. A reliable workforce is likely to be a growing problem as New Hampshire's elderly population increases - an issue explored in the Loan Fund's paper, Home Alone in New Hampshire.
  • The initiative's goal is to improve the quality of jobs for low-wage  paraprofessional workers in nursing homes and in home care  so experienced workers are retained, and a higher quality of care and support is delivered to people who are elderly and disabled.
